Japan Kobe Mission
The Japan Kobe mission was originally the Japan Okinawa Mission
organized September 1, 1968 as the 83rd mission of the LDS church.
The Japan Kobe Mission will be discontinued on July 1, 2001. At that time a portion of the mission (from Kobe westward) will be transferred to the Japan Hiroshima Mission. The rest of the mission will become part of the Japan Nagoya Mission. Adjustments are being made to stakes and districts from Kobe north through Sendai to account for the loss of the Japan Kobe mission. The number of missions in Japan has been steadily declining since reaching a maximum of 10 several years ago. With the demise of the Japan Kobe mission there will be 7 missions in Japan.
Kobe is probably best known currently for the devastating January 1995 earthquake. Located in the Kansai region of Japan, Kobe is close to Osaka Japan's second largest city and not far from Kyoto, the ancient capitol of Japan.
