June 11, 2008 - Michael returned home after serving 2 years as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the California Santa Rosa Mission. For complete details on his missionary service see Mike's Mission..
June 7, 2006 - Michael departed for two years of service as a missionary for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. His family took him to the Missionary training center in Provo, Utah. He was set apart last evening as a missionary by President Stephen A. Hastings, President of the Sandy, Utah Midvalley Stake. See Mike's departure.
May 6, 2006 - After his first year at the University of Utah, Michael is a Senior at the University of Utah. His majors are Mechanical Engineering and Mathematics
April 2006 - Michael was called to serve as a missionary in the California Santa Rosa mission. He leaves on June 7, 2006.
August 2005 - Michael was ordained an Elder in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He plans to serve a mission starting in May or June of 2006.
June 9, 2005 - Michael graduated from Hillcrest High School. His rank was 30th in his class.
May 2005 - Michael got a perfect score of 800 on the math portion of the SAT test. He also received a 33 composite score on the ACT test.
April 23, 2005 - Michael chooses to attend the University of Utah. He received a 4 year full tuition scholarship. He had considered USC and Stanford.
February 23, 2005 - In semi-final judging held at Brighton High School Michael was selected one of 15 finalists in Mathematics in the Deseret News KSL Sterling Scholar awards program. Michael was selected from among 50 other nominees.
December 1, 2004 - Michael was selected as Hillcrest High School's nominee in the category of Mathematics in the annual KSL-Deseret Morning News Sterling Scholar awards program. The announcement was made at the annual Sterling Scholar assembly.
November 11, 2003 - Michael was selected a member of the boy's JV-Varsity Basketball team at Hillcrest High school on November 12th, 2004. The picture at the left was taken on December 12, 2003 when Hillcrest played Clearfield at the Delta Center in Salt Lake City.
March 2003 - Mike's Jr. Jazz team goes to the quarter finals of the Sandy City 9th/10th grade playoffs
February 18, 2003 - Mike turned 16 and received his UTAH driver license!
November 27, 2002 - Michael received his "practice" driving permit. Total driving time today 1.5 hours!
April 19, 2002 - Salt Lake City, Utah - Michael took 15th place in the State Math Contest held at Brigham Young University. Last year he took 45th in the state and 1st in his school so he was hoping to improve this year after taking Algebra II. He did improve his score from an 84 to a 107 (23 points).
March 24, 2001 - Salt Lake City, Utah - Michael took 8th place in the State Math Counts competition held at Wasatch middle school in the Granite school district. Six of the top 10 students were from Wasatch. Wasatch won the team trophy and took 3 of the 4 top places which go to the national Math Counts competition in Washington in May. Michael was disappointed that he did not make the top 4 since this was his main goal for this school year. His team from Union Middle School took the 5th place team trophy.
February 24, 2001 - Sandy, Utah - Michael took 1st place individual, 1st place countdown round and the Union Middle School team took 2nd place at the Regional MathCounts competition held at Mt. Jordan Middle School. He brought home 3 trophies!
January 12, 2001 - West Jordan, Utah - Michael takes 2nd place in the Jordan School District Math Counts Competition for7th and 8th grade students. Prizes included a trophy and a medal. The Union middle school team also placed 2nd.

Basketball
Can't be a Haslam and not be into BASKETBALL!
Michael was cut from the Sophomore team during the final cut on November 14, 2002. He was told "You don't need basketball you are such a good student".
Michael's 7/8 grade Jr. Jazz team was 10-0 during the regular season (2000-2001) (playing Saturday's at Cressent View Middle School). The team went on to the Sandy Rec 7/8 grade championships losing in the quarter finals.
