We wish you a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year 2004
From The Haslams of Sandy Utah
HOOPS `R US or so it feels this winter with both Michael and Angela playing High School basketball for Hillcrest High School. If were are not at home chances are we are at the basketball game. Reed & Sherry can't figure out where the kids got their athletic abilities but it is a treat to have the twins both playing high school ball.
Reed is now in his 13th year at Novell. In August Reed was assigned to the team working on Novell's new thrust into the Linux marketplace that has been a welcome change.
Sherry loves the 3.5 hours she spends each day as an aide at Oakdale Elementary School. She is still recovering from knee surgery in August when her right knee was scoped for the 2nd time. With everyone driving most of our money goes to auto insurance. Our cars literally fill the yard (photo from last Christmas).
Rob (22). Rob continues his studies at the University of Utah where he is pursuing a dual major in Business and Japanese. Rob loves his job as a teller at the Midvale branch of Mountain America Credit Union. He is grateful for the scholarship he has so that his earnings can pay for his 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee. He has spent ample time on the social scene but has yet to meet the perfect one.
Jared (19) is 6' 1 tall. Jared is preparing to serve in the Albuquerque New Mexico Mission. He departs on February 4 th 2004. He's excited because a part of the mission covers Indian territory in New Mexico and Arizona. He graduated from Hillcrest High School in June 2003. Since graduation his old friends have generally gone in different directions, but a new friend, Ashley Kessler, has filled much of the void. Jared is the head coach of Haslam basketball and we feel coaching basketball is in his future.
Michael (16-11 th Grade) is 6-0 tall. Michael has done the near impossible this past year. First as a sophomore he studied the advanced part of calculus not covered in his class and then he passed the Calculus BC AP test with a 5 (highest possible score). This fall he tried out for the basketball team. Having not made the team as a sophomore his chances were well, near impossible, yet to our excitement he was selected a member of the team in November. He is now living his older brothers' dream and they have been supportive of him. The team played a game in the Delta Center on December 12 th.
Angela (16-11th Grade) is 5'-10" tall. Angela continues to play High School volleyball and basketball. The volleyball season this past fall was difficult as Utah switched to rally scoring as used in college. This seemed to make the game very different. The basketball season is already looking up as the team took 2nd place in an 8-team basketball tournament.
