June 2004
Albuquerque New Mexico
June 29, 2004 - Transfer day in the Albuquerque New Mexico Mission. Jared's new senior companion is Elder McAllister.
June 28, 2004 - Jared reported via e-mail that he will get a new senior companion on June 29th as Elder Britton returns home to Jamaica. His district leader thought Jared would become senior companion, but this did not happen.
June 21, 2004 - Jared said "I'm doing OK even though I had it out with my companion last night. I made him realize what he's been doing".
Thinking of the fun his younger siblings were having Jared said that when school was over "it was the best time of the year - whoever wrote the song was messed up!"
"I have just one week left with Elder Britton. I want to work hard again. The only hard work I've done lately is getting Elder Britton to work". "I just want to serve with my might mind and strength and doing so is hard right now.
He reported on the two baptisms that occurred on June 18th. One was Reba an older sister and John a 17 year old young man. John's grandpa said "Don't forget to hold your breath as John went to the font". President and Sister Mansell attended the baptism service.
Jared reported that he and Elder Britton only taught 13 discussions in the prior week. Not too good. With Elder Landon in Farmington they were used to teaching 28 discussions per week.
He lamented on missing Sister Culler (from Farmington) to do his laundry.
June 14, 2004 - Jared wrote "Things are a little bit better here because there are only 2 more weeks before Elder Britton returns to Jamaica...everyone has to go through at least a couple of comps like this". "Everything is so different in Albuquerque, I am still adjusting to it". This area is amazing. Even with a trunkey companion we are having some success. The Spanish Elders introduced us to a young lady who was anxious to hear the discussions. We taught her about Joseph Smith and she said "I felt like I was there". We are having two baptisms on Friday June 18th. They wanted me to perform the baptisms, but I suggested that the fellowshipper in the ward should do it and they accepted my suggestion.
June 7, 2004 - I'm still struggling with my companion who is getting ready to go home to . My companion says he's sick, but I don't believe it. "Things here in the Sage ward are going OKAY but they could be going awesome. We do have some good things going on ... a baptism this week and two the following week." First is a young girl named Lulu who is 10. The other is a woman named Reba who is 64 and a young man named John (14).
