January 2005
Grants, New Mexico & Bayfield, Colorado
January 31, 2005 - Jared e-mailed to let us know his new assignment is to Bayfield Colorado. It is a small town east of Durango on highway 160. His new companion is Elder Moore who is from British Columbia Canada. Things have been depressing lately with my good friend going home early, Angie struggling with basketball and issues I am dealing with here in the mission field.
January 17, 2005 - Jared wrote that he was really upset to learn that one of his closest friends in the mission purchased a plane ticket on-line and flew home. He said the Elder called him before he left, but he was not home at that time, but could tell that "something big was up".
They had a baptism for A.J. a 9 year old. Due to construction on the Grant's stake center they had trouble locating the baptismal clothes, but it all worked out well.
January 10, 2005 - The holidays are sure different when you are a missionary. It was different bringing in the New Year asleep. "I don't think I've done that in a long time, even as a kid you would let us stay up to see the ball drop."
"We'll my time in Grants is winding down and I am sad to say goodbye. I have seen a lot of good things happen and I thank the Lord for the success. I feel there is so much more I can do. I guess that is how you always feel when it is time to leave. My companion is a little concerned about my leaving and if he can continue to teach our investigators." Some of the people I've baptized (Sister Farrias and Sister Sena) now have callings in the church and it is so awesome to see these people serving in the Lord's kingdom.
January 3, 2005 - Isaiah Sena helped Jared write today's letter. His scribbling was visible in several places. Jared wrote "There should be 4 or 5 baptisms here in the next 10 weeks." I am feeling a deep sense of urgency here and I sure hope I can do everything I need to in this area before I go. I think this will be the hardest area for me to leave, but I'll go where ever the Lord wants me to go."
Jared added "I think I am starting to understand the promptings of the spirit. Sometimes it is so subtle it is hard to recognize and it can come at so many different times, but I know they do come. Recently the spirit helped me and I don't believe it has ever spoken as clear or as loud as it did then."
